If you don’t understand the bit about ioc, i strongly recommend you go read the beginners guide. Even at this stage, it’s so much easier to decipher if you understand the principals behind polyalphabetic ciphers – which are explained with the context of a Vigènere.

I wish you all the best of luck with this – you can do it!

is there a fixed number of alphabets, or can different letters have a different number of substitutes? (that is, if this cipher even involves substitution)

OFFICIAL CLUE: Hopefully by now you have the period, you have the ciphers, and you just need a key word. Unfortunately, this is related to a farmer’s death.

I am really stuck at this cipher and I have literally spent days and days trying to solve it but I feel like I have made no progress.

OFFICIAL COMMENT/CLUE: Yes, there is more than 1 cipher. Now go back and re-read the cryptic clues and see if you can glean any more information from them. About the farmer’s death – you need to think about this, and the story overall, and languages used.

Interesting isn’t it, when the ‘strongest and beautiful’ cipher turned out to be the beaufort….
